Dowagiac mining ends as AI conversion begins

Effective September 1, Hyperscale Data says it turned off every Bitcoin miner at its Dowagiac campus to prepare the existing facility for a previously contracted 20 MW AI deployment. The shutdown is confirmed; the AI capacity is not yet confirmed as installed or energized.

Why it matters

This is a concrete operating-use change at an existing Michigan facility, not another long-range capacity announcement. It clears the current mining load and site infrastructure for the first contracted phase of the campus conversion.

Wixom adopts data-center zoning standards

On August 25, Wixom City Council adopted its data-center ordinance amendments. Data centers are now special land uses only in the M-1 and M-2 districts, with standards covering separation, noise, cooling, utility capacity, traffic, security and decommissioning.

Why it matters

Wixom has moved from a temporary pause to a defined review path. Any proposal must now clear a public special-land-use process and address site, infrastructure and operating impacts under city-specific standards.

Northfield Township adopts three data-center ordinances

On August 25, Northfield Township adopted Ordinances 26-25 through 26-27, adding data-center definitions, assigning permitted and conditional-use districts, and creating supplementary data-center regulations in Section 36-740.

Why it matters

The amendments replace a general zoning gap with a specific siting and review framework. They determine where a future data center may be considered and which applications require a conditional-use decision.
